A couple of days ago, a couple of leaked photos showed us the look of the latest lens from Samyang: 24mm f/2.8 AF lens for Sony EF mount. Now the lens is officially announced, along with some sample shots, so let’s take a look.
As we could have seen from the leaked photos, Samyang’s new 24mm f/2.8 lens is very similar in design to the 35mm f/2.8 for Sony FE. This means that the company has made another compact and lightweight lens for Sony full frame cameras.
Another thing the 35mm f/2.8 and 24mm f/2.8 have in common is autofocus. This is another lens in Samyang’s AF line, and the company promises fast and accurate autofocus performance. The lens has a wide angle of view (82.1˚) and the minimum focusing distance of 0.24m. So, it can be ideal for all sorts of situations: travel, events, landscape, street, food, or environmental portraits.
Samyang 24mm f/2.8 has Ultra Multi-Coating which increases clarity and sharpness by reducing the lens flare and ghosting. According to Samyang, the coating also minimizes unnecessary reflection of light in order to control the light transmittance to express the accurate color.
Here are the detailed specs of Samyang 24mm f/2.8:
The price and availability of the Samyang 24mm f/2.8 haven’t been announced yet. But if the price gets to be similar to the one of the 35mm f/2.8, my guess is that it will retail at around $270. Of course, when we have the precise information, we’ll update the article and let you know.
