Only a week after announcing the 24mm f/2.8 AF lens for Sony EF, Samyang is adding another compact and lightweight AF lens to their arsenal. The company has announced an AF 85mm f/1.4 lens for Canon EF mount, half the price of the Canon 85mm f/1.4.
Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 EF is a fast lens made of 9 elements in 7 groups, with 1 Hybrid aspherical lens. It has a coating that promises reduced lens flare and ghosting. The lens weighs 485g without lens caps and hood, and here’s the size comparison with “standard” 85mm lenses:
To compare, Canon EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM weighs 950g, and Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art weighs 1.13 kg.
Samyang promises “fast, accurate and quiet auto focus performance” of the new AF 85mm f/1.4 EF. In addition, the lens is also weather-sealed and dust-proof, so you can use it in various conditions.

So, Samyang’s 85mm f/1.4 AF lens is definitely cheaper and more compact, and we still have to see how the image quality stacks up against Canon and Sigma.
