Nikon is expanding its APS-C mirrorless lineup with two new Z-mount lenses: the NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/2.8 zoom and a compact, bright NIKKOR Z DX MC 35mm f/1.7 prime. These are both designed for Nikon’s DX-format mirrorless cameras and pack a healthy mix of versatility, performance, and portability.
NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/2.8 – Bright, Versatile, And Stabilized
The 16–50mm f/2.8 lens steps in as one of the brightest standard zooms available for Nikon’s DX system. With a constant f/2.8 aperture throughout its zoom range, it offers excellent control over depth of field and holds up better than typical kit lenses in low-light situations.
Its 24–75mm full-frame equivalent coverage makes it a solid option for everything from landscapes to portraits, while built-in image stabilization adds extra value for handheld shooting. You’ll find it particularly useful if you shoot on one of Nikon’s entry-level bodies that don’t have IBIS.
And despite the constant fast aperture throughout the zoom range, the NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/2.8 is pretty compact. At just 330 grams and under 90mm in length, it can be a great travel companion if you want to pack light.

NIKKOR Z DX 35mm f/1.7 – Compact Standard Prime With Close-Focus
The NIKKOR Z DX 35mm f/1.7 is more of a close-focusing everyday prime. With its 52.5mm full-frame equivalent field of view, this lens hits the classic “nifty fifty” territory. It’s versatile and ideal for portraits, street shooting, and lifestyle photography.
What makes it especially appealing is the bright f/1.7 maximum aperture, which provides strong subject separation and low-light performance. The lens also focuses as close as 6.3 inches (16cm) from the sensor, making it useful for detailed close-up shots, even if it doesn’t technically qualify as a macro lens.
Inside, there’s an 8-element optical design and an STM motor that delivers quiet, reliable autofocus. That’s good news for both stills and video shooters. Weighing just 220 grams and measuring under 3 inches long, it’s a perfect companion for Nikon’s smaller DX bodies.
