Will Canon be releasing another mirrorless camera body sometime soon? Well, according to the site Canon Rumours they certainly seem to think so. The site apparently has good sources that have said that there will be a Canon R6 Mark II coming out “sooner rather than later” and they even have the specs.
Now it must be noted that the specifications are extremely early and not reliable information. They are in fact, just rumours. However, the site also believes that it’s “highly probable” that the sensor will be a version of that found in the EOS R3.
The rumoured spec list is as follows:
- 24mp Full-frame CMOS Sensor
- In-body stabilization
- 12fps Mechanical
- 4K 30p (No Crop)
- 4K 60p (Cropped. The EOS R6 is a 1.1x crop)
- Canon Log 3/HDR PQ
- Dual Pixel CMOS AF
- SD/SDHC dual card slot
- Not much change in the form factor over the original EOS R6
Canon has been full steam ahead with its mirrorless bodies recently with the releases of the EOS R7 and R10 crop sensor bodies. The addition of an updated R6 is interesting, particularly considering that that particular model is not that old, only having been released in July 2020.
That being said, the EOS R6 has proved to be an incredibly popular camera, both among professionals and serious enthusiasts. Perhaps there really is enough of a call to update it and keep the R6 at the cutting edge of mirrorless designs. Certainly, there don’t seem to be too many massive changes in the specs, however, it must be remembered that these are just speculations.
It’s also interesting that Canon is going full pelt into developing more camera bodies when they have prevented third-party autofocus lenses to be made with the RF mount. We have heard several people commenting that that alone may be enough to deter them from investing in the Canon mirrorless system.
It’s not the only rumour around Canon mirrorless camera releases either. Just this week another was circulating about a prospective Canon R8 being the updated replacement for the original mirrorless body the EOS R. The unconfirmed rumour first appeared on Weibo and at this stage is to be considered conjecture and wholly unreliable.
But one thing is for sure, there are more new Canon bodies and updates in the pipeline.
