Think your photos are so bad they make your friends groan, your family hide their phones, or your Instagram likes evaporate faster than morning mist? Icelandair wants you.

The airline has launched a campaign to find the world’s worst photographer, offering a chance to travel to Iceland, get paid $50,000, and have your “unique” shots featured in a global campaign.

This is your moment to turn your photographic disasters into international fame, or at least a lot of hilarious memories.

Who Qualifies as the Worst Photographer?

Icelandair is looking for someone with no professional photography background and no burning desire to become a professional.

You should be comfortable taking photos with your phone or a basic camera, often disappointed with your own results, and occasionally shocked when a shot actually turns out okay. The airline also encourages applicants to upload a short video sharing their best, or worst, photo fails.

Think blurry landscapes, accidental finger smudges, or a cousin’s head awkwardly cropping into a sunset. If you’ve ever cursed your camera or cursed yourself while trying to capture the perfect shot, you’re the type of photographer they want.

And yes, you also need to be comfortable sharing yourself on video and in photos, love to travel, and enjoy meeting new people.

The Adventure in Iceland

The selected participant will get a fully planned 10-day trip to Iceland, with travel expenses covered. You’ll explore some of the country’s most stunning natural landscapes, from glaciers and geysers to waterfalls and volcanic fields.

Icelandair emphasizes that applicants must be able to handle outdoor adventures, including hiking and navigating uneven terrain. You’ll be part of a campaign that could be shared worldwide, giving your quirky photography style an international audience.

It’s not just a free trip. The prize includes $50,000 for your photographs, content, and participation in the campaign. That means your famously messy photos could literally pay off. Icelandair will produce marketing content featuring the winner, which could appear in exhibitions, online campaigns, and other publications.

Application Requirements

Applications are open until April 30, 2026.

To be eligible, you must be at least 21 years old, able to travel to Iceland, the UK, and the US, and have a clean criminal record. You also need a valid passport, travel insurance, and the physical ability to participate in outdoor activities during the trip.

The airline encourages participants to submit a 60-second audition explaining why their lack of skill makes them the perfect candidate. It’s all about showing personality, creativity, and a willingness to embrace your mistakes.

Applications are now open, and the airline will select a winner based on the originality, humor, and charm of their photography fails. If you’ve been hiding your worst shots out of embarrassment, now is your chance to share them with the world and get paid for it.

Your bad photos might just make you Iceland’s next big star!
