Manfrotto recently released two new video heads, the Nitrotech N8, and the Nitrotech N12. Those are high-load video heads which support 0-8kg and 4-12kg respectively.
What is interesting about those heads is their counterbalance mechanism. Unlike lower-end heads, these heads have a nitrogen gas piston for counterbalance. We looked at the Nitrotech N8 and it supports quite a load (up to 8kg). The head provides continuous counterbalance power. This means that when you let go of the handle, the head keeps its position as if it was locked in place.
There are two models in the Nitrotech family:
Nitrotech N8 – this head is planned to support up to 8kg of gear. This would be a fully loaded Canon C200, A7X (or similar) fully loaded rig with lights, a microphone, a monitor and a few accessories. It is already shipping and sells for $449, or as a kit including a carbon fiber tripod for $1,179.
Nitrotech N12 – The N12 is the Nitrotech N8 “big brother”, it supports loads up to 12 kg (though it will not support loads lighter than 4kg). Its slightly differnt knobs wise, but generally very similar. It is designed for bigger cameras like the RED ot for longer modular cameras which needs long rails and long plates. The N12 should start shipping mid-December and will set you back $599
