It seems that ads on Craigslist are getting more and more creative these days. This time, a couple is looking for a photographer who’ll document their entire wedding day, including the first wedding night. They’ve both saved themselves for marriage, and they’re hiring a photographer for the super-awkward gig of capturing the marriage consummation.
No matter how weird this may seem, I can sort of understand the couple. We all like to document our very special moments, and what’s more special (and really rare these days) than losing your virginity with the one you marry?
Now, I must say I love the objectivity of the ad with the “[we] understand our first time will be awkward,” because indeed – it will. So, if it’s gonna be awkward anyway, why not raise it even further and have the third person around, capturing this wonderful awkwardness with the camera? Fortunately, after the whole day of shooting, at least this nighttime gig shouldn’t last long (if you know what I mean).
Joke aside, this ad at least seems fair. They don’t pay in exposure (pun not intended), but ask photographers to send their pricing. They want their special moment captured in a tasteful way, and not asking for someone to shoot their home video. Although I can still hardly imagine a more awkward gig than this one – I would try shooting something like this. After all, if birth photography is the thing, I don’t see why this wouldn’t be.

Already done. Not with virgins, but still. Was fine, I show my self out when the couple finished, with a nod of my head, and send the photos couple days after, after payment was completed.
Damn….. i stopped doing weddings and told people “i’ll shoot the wedding day if i can shoot the wedding night”
I need to rethink that….
Well let’s see, need: art director, lighting director, 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th assistant director, 5 foot soft boxes, pin spots, hair lights, assorted gels, grips, RED WEAPON 8K, catering, CGI…

I have thought about this and and have come to the conclusion that this has been blown way out of proportion and what would most likely happen is to document the ride back or walk to the honeymoon suite where the pictures would be a reverse of the getting ready part and after a few creative couples budoir style shots of some foreplay the photographer exits and the happy couple finishes their night. That is how I would approach it and I would not might shooting this because it is an interesting addition to the the typical wedding photos. I do not see this request as that unusual and it shocks me how many photographers would turn down something like this but then I thought about the money and that is why most are turning it down I think because with this wedding you would be working the entire day and most are going to charge an arm and a leg for this. I hope the couple a happy day and I hope they find a professional, respectable, and creative photog for their special day!

If it was like my honeymoon, all that’s needed is an extra bit of memory card space. 3 minutes tops.
All kidding aside, if they were local, I would happily do it so long it as it was genuine and nothing sleazy that involved me at all. It sounds like a hilariously sweet thing to do for first-timers. I could see it being done very easily – a bunch of bedroom shots, smoochy shots, some body shots, some implied orgasm faces, that sort of thing (sex + laughter = awesome sex after a release of nervous tension). Gets them in the mood and I could leave when they get down to actual business.
