Kendrick Lamar bans pro photographers from his concerts, only fans can take photos

More and more performers are trying to ban smartphones during their concerts and only allow professional photographers to take the shots. However, Kendrick Lamar is taking a different route. He will not ban his fans from using smartphones at his shows – but there will be no professional photographers allowed.
The initial reports stated that Lamar will ban everyone from taking photos on his upcoming tour, both professionals and fans. However, his rep has recently told Pitchfork that smartphones will, in fact, be allowed. The audience is free to watch the show through their screens and post the photos to social networks. As for the professionals, it’s reported that Top Dawg Entertainment will provide photos to media outlets as needed. So I suppose there will only be Lamar’s crew of photographers allowed at his concerts.
We’ve seen plenty of cases when performers have been annoyed by people using phones during their concerts. Josh Klinghoffer of RHCP stopped playing and started filming the audience in the middle of a show. Jack White has taken the phone ban to another level and has had the audience keep them in locked Yondr pouches. At Nick Cave’s concert I attended in October, he also made a couple of remarks about people who were constantly trying to take photos and videos instead of enjoying the show.
With so many artists annoyed by smartphones, I find it strange that Lamar took a totally different approach to taking photos at his concerts. What do you think?

Who is Kendrick Lamar?
was just about ask the same….
He’s a rapper from the US. One of those flavour of the month kind of guys.
Yet will accomplish more in his chosen field than any of you combined. How cute.
and his “flavor” has been around for… i dunno… 10 years?
Paul,
Don’t worry. I had to google him myself. Nope, I have no interest in attending his concerts or buying his music.
No DSLR allowed? There are people that own DSLRs that are not pro photographers.
Henry Rodgers quite sad really
Why is that exactly Paul? Just so that we have a base on which to build.
Anything to hold on to some feeling of superiority I guess. I hope you’re master photographers. Seems like you’d need to be to disregard another artist in this manner.
Can’t wait to buy your books and have you sign them for me in the future. (y)
Henry Rodgers whats your issue? You came on here and demean photographers. I asked who he is because I live in the UK and his name means nothing to me
Henry Rodgers I meant you are quite sad that you felt you had to attack photographers
Henry Rodgers I didn’t know who he was, either – I just don’t listen to current pop, and my kid mostly listens to hard rock and electronica. Do you know Ahmad Jamal? Arturo Toscanini? Joe Saddler? How about outside of music… ever heard of John Pedicini, Leslie Groves, or Klaus Fuchs?
And since you brought it up, I’d be happy to sign any of my three books for you. I’ll even cover postage.
this is sad
… i think it’s stupid… people aren’t enjoying the show behind their screen…
Jamie Cooney Well imagine you are going to a concert to enjoy the artist and see the artist but all you can see during the show is phone screens and not the artist because you have HUNDREDS of people filming the whole show for their insta story and facebook lives… Do you understand this point of view ?
But maybe you are one of those people who go to shows to watch them behind their phones ?
And yes that is my way of thinking. And if that sounds crazy to you then you might be one of those who stare at their phone during diner… and that’s ok… if that makes you happy ;)
He’s the worst rapper of all time so I can see this. Fits his character.
It is his right as an entertainer. Concerts are private events under the law. (not that I care for artists doing this as a concert photographer but I respect their right to request this).
Piotr Wielkopłytowiec
so, I doubt his manager and PR firm likes the idea, as its the pro images in magazines that sells the image of the artist surely…..but its his gig, his rules
Ah
That figures.
Well that’s the last time I’ll take fotos lol
hahaha
he doesn’t want professionals at his concert, fine be it, we can spend our ticket money else where :) I have no idea who this is anyhow………. LOL
Can fans take in pro DSLRs though?
Jack White is creating the next standard
Meanwhile… :D

Kendrick is an amazing lyricist, and rapper. A highly intelligent man who was a straight A student in Compton, CA who didn’t fall into gang life.
He’s not like all the other performers out there “rapping” through auto tune with a mouthful of marbles.
Y’all need to broaden your horizons, and flatten them. ?✌?
