New Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary lens is now available for preorders

100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary is one of four lenses Sigma announced earlier this year. After the pricey 135mm F/1.8 Art lens, this is the second one from the series released for preorders. The price is now officially announced, and this time, the surprise is rather positive.
The 100-400mm f/5-6.3 from Sigma is available for $799, which sounds like a reasonable price for a zoom lens of this range. For comparison, Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM costs $1,299. Nikon doesn’t have the zoom lens of the same range, but their 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR lens costs near $1,400.
Unlike the prime 135mm F/1.8 Art lens, which surprised is with its high price, the 100-400mm is certainly more affordable. Here are some of the specs:

Just like the rest of Sigma’s lenses, the 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary is available for Nikon, Canon and Sigma mounts natively. You can also use it on Sony cameras with a Sigma MC-11 Sony E-mount converter. If you’d like to preorder this lens, you can do it now, and the shipping is expected to begin at the end of May 2017.

How does this compare with the old version of this lens? I always thought it was pretty good value for a whole lot of glass
