Godox has just unveiled the AD400Pro II, the successor to one of its most popular portable strobes. It’s a solid update that packs in several features from Godox’s larger pro lights into a more portable, all-in-one package.
If you’re familiar with the original AD400Pro, the core formula remains the same: it’s a 400Ws battery-powered monolight designed for photographers who need reliable power on location. But the II version adds a few useful upgrades that are worth taking a closer look at.
What’s New With the AD400Pro II
The headline features are the Group Colour Functionality and the new 2.4-inch colour screen. The group colour feature means each of the 16 wireless groups can be assigned a different colour, which is displayed on the flash head itself. This is a huge help when you’re on a busy set and need to identify which light is which from across the room.
They’ve also given the physical body a design overhaul for a more modern and intuitive feel, complete with a handy rotatable selection dial. The built-in modeling lamp gets a significant power bump, now a 30W bi-color LED that you can adjust from 2800K to 6500K. It also features high CRI/TLCI ratings (97/98), making it a viable option for hybrid shooters who need a decent video light.

Core Specs: Power and Performance
The AD400Pro II is all about consistent, portable power.
- 400Ws Output: It offers adjustable power from 1/1 down to 1/512 in precise 0.1-stop increments.
- Battery Life: The detachable 21.6V battery is rated for an impressive 460 full-power flashes which is an improvement over the previous model.
- Recycling Time: It recycles ready for the next flash in between 0.01 and 1 second.
- High-Speed Sync (HSS): It supports HSS all the way up to your camera’s maximum shutter speed of 1/8000s.
- Freeze Mode: For stopping extreme action, its freeze mode offers incredibly short flash durations ranging from 1/3,470s to 1/27,770s.
It also maintains Godox’s stable colour temperature mode, which keeps colour variance within a very tight +/- 75K across the entire power range, with a base flash temperature of 5800K (±200K).
Wireless Control and Compatibility
Like all modern Godox lights, the AD400Pro II has a built-in 2.4GHz Godox X wireless system. This gives you control over 16 groups and 32 channels from up to 328 feet away. You will need a separate compatible trigger (like the XPro II) to use this feature.
For connectivity, it has a 3.5mm sync port and a USB-C port that’s used for firmware updates or connecting a 433MHz receiver (like the Godox FR433) for older triggering systems.

Who Is This For?
The AD400Pro II sits in a sweet spot. It’s more powerful and has a faster recycle time than speedlights, but is significantly smaller and lighter than a 600Ws pack-and-head system. Weighing in at 4.4 lbs, it’s a highly portable workhorse ideal for:
- Location and outdoor portrait photographers
- Wedding shooters
- Anyone who needs a powerful, reliable off-camera flash that doesn’t need a separate battery pack
It comes with a Bowens mount adapter in the box, giving you instant access to a huge ecosystem of modifiers. Optional adapters are available for Broncolor, Profoto, and Elinchrom mounts.
Price and Availability
The AD400Pro II is priced at $649.00, and available to preorder now.
