Godox unveils the AD600Pro II, the ultimate all-in-one outdoor strobe

Godox has announced the release of its brand new updated outdoor strobe, the AD600 Pro II ($899), and with it promises an unbeatable user experience. It is no surprise that it made its way into our best studio strobes guide. This all-in-one outdoor flash integrates the latest technology and boasts other major upgrades in flash duration, battery life, and wider output range. With One-Tap Sync, a group identification indicator, and an optimized colour screen, it offers superior performance for every shot.

The AD600 Pro II builds on the foundations of the previous AD600 Pro and features a lightning-fast recycle time ranging from 0.01 to 0.9 seconds, and supports High-Speed Sync up to 1/8000 seconds. The Godox 2.4G Wireless System ensures seamless integration with TTL auto flash systems across multiple camera brands, including Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Panasonic, FUJIFILM, Pentax, and Leica.

One of the interesting features of this updated strobe is that it can also double as an LED continuous video light. Now, that sounds like an ingenious idea for those of us who shoot both stills and video. However, the LED is only 40 watts, which is an extremely modest output, even for video lighting. That being said, it’s a great idea, and I hope that more brands follow suit, perhaps with the idea of more powerful dual flash/continuous lights in the future. Let’s have a look at some of the other major features of the AD600 Pro II.

Godox AD600Pro II - the remote

One-tap sync

The new One-Tap Sync function ensures instant synchronization with the X3 Flash Trigger. No more complicated channels and ID switching. Just tap the wireless sync on the X3 and select the sync icon on the AD600 Pro II. Within a second, they’ll synchronize wirelessly, letting you get straight to shooting. The AD600 Pro II is also compatible with other Godox triggers like the X Pro II and X2T, providing flexibility all around.

Godox AD600Pro II - colored grouping

16 Groups, 16 Colours

The AD600 Pro II has 16 groups, each represented by a different colour on both the flash unit and the X3 trigger. This innovative design makes managing multiple lights much easier than before, and it also makes controlling individual lights in complex multi-light setups much easier.

Godox AD600Pro II - color screen

Colour screen for smoother control

The AD600 Pro II has a vibrant TFT colour screen, which enhances brightness and contrast for optimal visibility in any lighting condition. The control panel is streamlined for quick and convenient access, with the power button directly on the panel and the modeling light button requiring just a one-second press to operate.

Freeze the motion

The AD600 Pro II’s Freeze Mode precisely captures fast-moving subjects. It has an ultra-short flash duration reaching 1/20400(t0.1) and a very short recycling time of 0.01s. This makes it perfect for capturing a dancer mid-leap or a splash of water, with all the details crisp and sharp.

Godox AD600Pro II - bi color LED modeling light

40W bi-colour modeling light: flash and constant light in one

The AD600 Pro II also has a 40W bi-color continuous LED light. In this way, the AD600 Pro II serves both as a high-performance flash and a reliable LED light for video shooting. It can be used as both a modelling light and as an extra light source to fill shadows or add warmth in low-light conditions. 40 watts isn’t a lot of light, but it should be enough to fill in some shadows, for example.

Wider output range

The AD600 Pro II has a 10-step power output range from 1/1 to 1/512, which allows for fine-tuned adjustments to achieve more nuanced lighting effects. This extended range offers flexibility and precision for photographers.

Accessories for Creative Freedom

Like other Godox lights, the AD600 Pro II is compatible with a wide range of Bowens mount accessories, including softboxes and beauty dishes.

Extension head for lightweight flexibility

An optional H600P extension head is available with a 2m extension wire, enabling greater flexibility in positioning the flash head. Its light weight makes mounting overhead lights much easier, making it more convenient for both outdoor and studio shooting.

AC support and smart battery charging

The AD600 Pro II can be used either with a rechargeable battery or via an AC power source. It can use the AC26 as its AC power source, replacing the rechargeable battery for continuous and stable power output during photo shoots.

If you prefer a rechargeable battery, the Godox UC46 USB Charger provides fast charging for the AD600 Pro II, 400 Pro, and 600 Series. It automatically adjusts to each model’s specific voltage, protecting the cells from overcharging. The charger’s LCD monitors progress and displays the battery levels and user priority sequence.

I don’t understand the “one tap feature” they’re touting for this light. I have several Godox lights (including the AB600BM). All pair with the Godox trigger – and my PocketWizards – instaneously.
