A dead battery, a full memory card, or audio ruined by a sudden shout can turn a perfectly good video shoot into a frustrating day of reshoots.

Insta360 wants to give creators another safety net with its new wireless Mic, which can record audio directly to a microSD card inside the transmitter. Add 32-bit float recording, and creators get a backup audio file they can adjust in post production, even when recording levels fluctuate unexpectedly.

The new microphone also features a customizable E-Ink display, AI noise cancellation, and support for up to four transmitters on one receiver.

A microSD slot makes the difference

Unlike wireless microphones with fixed internal storage, the Insta360 Mic uses a removable microSD card for onboard recording. Insert a compatible card, and the transmitter can record audio independently of the camera or phone, providing a backup if something goes wrong with the main recording.

The card also enables 32-bit float internal recording, which provides substantial flexibility when adjusting audio levels during editing. A recording that initially sounds too quiet can be boosted, while loud passages can often be reduced without the same limitations associated with conventional fixed point recording.

There are limits, however. The format cannot repair every kind of distortion, particularly problems caused by microphone placement or an overloaded microphone capsule. The card is also sold separately, so users need to factor in the additional purchase.

Without a microSD card, the Mic can still send audio over Bluetooth or through its wireless receiver. Internal recording is optional rather than a requirement for using the microphone.

AI noise cancellation and four person recording

Insta360 includes a dedicated AI audio processing chip for noise cancellation, designed to reduce background sounds while keeping voices natural. Two automatic gain modes help manage changing volume levels, while Regular, Rich, and Bright voice presets offer different tonal options.

The receiver supports up to four transmitters simultaneously and can work with transmitters from the Mic Pro lineup. This makes the system suitable for interviews, group conversations, and other productions involving several speakers.

Compatible Insta360 cameras can also connect directly to the transmitter over Bluetooth, without requiring the receiver. Supported models include the X6, X5, Luna Ultra, Luna Pro, GO Ultra, and Ace Pro 2.

Battery life for longer shoots

Each transmitter is rated for up to 13 hours of operation, with the charging case extending the stated total to 34 hours. Actual runtime depends on usage and recording conditions.

The Insta360 Mic became available globally on October 22, 2026, through Insta360’s official store and authorized retailers. Pricing varies by configuration.
