Never fear, get as close to the action as you want, neither surf nor sand can harm this smartphone camera.

You’ve waited 365 days for this moment to arrive. Your summer vacation is about to begin! And now it’s time to go over that vacation checklist: sunscreen-check; swimsuit-check; hat-check; sunglasses-check; waterproof camera-oops, not checked, yet. Ever since Jacques Cousteau introduced us to the undersea world, everybody has sought an inexpensive waterproof camera for use during a summer vacation. Unfortunately, the list of these undersea cameras is very short and very expensive. That is, until you stop looking for a camera and start looking at a smartphone.

That’s right. There’s a small, but growing list of waterproof smartphones that are ideal for capturing every vacation moment that won’t leave you beached with an empty wallet from buying a high-priced dedicated waterproof camera. Consider this smartphone checklist versus your favorite camera choice: thin, easily slipped into a pocket-check; controllable from a smartwatch-check; familiar, easily understood operating system-check; and, best of all, priced under $90-check, check, and check. Ladies and gentlemen, meet the UMIDIGI X10 Bison. And that name ain’t no “bull,” this is the real deal.

On paper, the specifications for the X10 are impressive. Operating on a MediaTek Helio P60 processor with 4GB of main memory and 64GB of onboard storage, the X10 uses a 6.53-inch matte glass LCD that is powered by a 6150mAh battery and uses Android 11 with complete Google Play Store support. In addition to the waterproof, shockproof, and dust-resistant protection, a microSD card (up to 256GB) can be added for additional storage.

Remarkably, the cameras are very good for such an inexpensive device. The photographic suite includes a 20MP f/1.76 main camera, 8MP ultra-wide angle camera with 120-degree field of view, and a 5MP macro camera with a minimum focus distance of 3cm. Video recording provides a resolution of 1080p at 30fps. Additionally, the front of the X10 includes a 8MP f/2.2 camera that provides similar video capabilities. This is a smartphone that you can safely, with peace of mind, give to a young photographer for recording a truly unique summer vacation perspective from a youthful perspective.

Shockproof
Heading out the door and you drop your smartphone…no worries, it’s shockproof, too.

Please note: While you could opt to add a cellular service SIM card to the X10, this isn’t a mandatory addition. The X10 Bison can be safely operated as an offline WiFi-only device.

All of this for $90. “What about photographic quality,” you anxiously ask. Please examine these sample images and judge for yourself.

Water fun activities
Water fun awaits you on vacation with a waterproof camera that’s hidden inside a smartphone.

Please note: There are a several items that could further enhance your appreciation of the X10.

1. A dedicated smartwatch, UMIDIGI Uwatch 5S for $17, enables you to take remotely controlled photographs with the X10 while maintaining a “watchful” eye on your health during your vacation. Both of these functions will require the installation of the Oyefit Android app on the X10. While you won’t find it on the Google Play Store, UMIDIGI has thoughtfully maintained a user-downloadable APK file for installation on your phone.

This entire UMIDIGI vacation setup costs $127.

2. Yes, the X10 can be slipped inside a pocket, but if your swimsuit lacks pockets, the neoprene ZING bag is perfect for toting your new vacation buddy around. Water-resistant, padded, and sealable, the ZING bag can also be clipped to a strap or belt or dangled from a beach-cruising bicycle handlebar.

3. Naturally, this third option, is the odd man out. Keeping in mind that the X10 is a robust “child-proof” smartphone, a set of UMIDIGI Airbuds U for $20, can be a welcome addition to ensuring that a long trek home from vacation is peaceful for the whole family. Since the X10, in addition to being a great waterproof camera, is a very capable Android smartphone, both music and games can be loaded up prior to the vacation departure. Don’t underestimate the benefit of having a “camera” filled with entertainment for ensuring vacation bliss while also making you look like a boss.

Enjoy.
