Samsung Confirms It Will Kill Off Its Camera Business in the UK

In September, Samsung was rumored to be exiting the camera market due to lack of demand.

At that point we had very little information to work with, but little by little, the rumor has rolled into full out reality, with Samsung since announcing it was discontinuing sales in Germany.

Today, the flames continue to be fanned with news that Samsung will soon stop selling all digital cameras and camcorders in the United Kingdom.

In a statement made to Amateur Photographer, Samsung UK announced it will stop sales of digital cameras and camcorders due to ‘a gradual and sustained decline in demand for standalone digital cameras, camcorders and related accessories.’

This piece of information is said to be local and specific to the UK, but considering the Germany news from last week, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Samsung continue to chop its camera efforts elsewhere around the world.

Having spent time with the NX1 camera system some time ago, it’ll be sad to see Samsung entirely exit the camera market. Considering the Samsung NX1 was a first-gen product, it was way ahead of the competition in terms of what it offered for the price point. I was excited to see what Samsung might do with the NX-series, but from the looks of it, that might never happen.
