Photographer uses burning building as a backdrop for a wedding photo

This Saturday, arson was confirmed in an abandoned building in Dayton, Ohio. Thick smoke and huge fire got the residents concerned, but one wedding photographer and a couple took an advantage of the situation. In the middle of the reception, they noticed the fire, rushed to the scene and the building in flames as a backdrop.

Megan Allen of Studio 22 Photography tells Dayton Daily News that she’s “known for doing crazy stuff” and that “she’ll go as far as her couples will go.” The photographer writes in a Facebook post that she and the bride ran toward each other as they saw the fire. The bride said: “We HAVE to go to the fire!” And that’s exactly what they did.

The couple and the photographer rushed out in the middle of the ceremony to use the burning building as a backdrop. They climbed a gravel hill and crossed train tracks to get closer to the scene. The photographer says that the bride’s dress didn’t get too dirty and her makeup stayed in place despite being so close to the fire. I’m happy they were all left unharmed, too, considering that they were close to the fire and crossed the train tracks.

I guess there’s something about fire that makes photographers and couples go an extra mile for the shot. Some of them take photos inside a volcano, and the others even set brides on fire. So when I compare the risk Megan and her couple took for this shot, maybe it isn’t that crazy when you think of all the other crazy stunts wedding photographers and couples do. Perhaps we can just see it as making the most of a bad situation. And I can’t help but think about this photographer who didn’t take an advantage of a fire. Although, that’s what I’d definitely choose, too.
