You probably know the feeling. You step out for a walk, see a fleeting street scene, and reach for your phone. The photo is quick, but it does not always feel like photography. That experience has pushed many people back toward compact digital cameras, especially small devices that keep things simple while still delivering dedicated imaging hardware.
A new entry in that space comes from YASHICA, which has introduced a lightweight compact camera with a 12 MP CMOS sensor, flip LCD screen, and 4K video recording.
The Yashica Tank Compact Digital Camera focuses on portability and everyday image capture, aiming to give you a pocket camera that feels separate from your phone while remaining easy to carry.

A Compact Camera Designed for Everyday Shooting
Yashica has a long history in photography, and recent products carrying the brand name often emphasize nostalgic design combined with modern digital features.
This compact camera follows a similar approach. It uses a 1/2.8 inch CMOS sensor with an effective resolution of 12 megapixels, designed to produce clear images while maintaining a softer and slightly nostalgic photographic look.
The camera includes a fixed autofocus lens with a focal length of 2.3 mm and an aperture of f/2.0. Its focus range extends from 0.1 meters to infinity, which allows you to photograph nearby subjects and distant scenes without switching lenses. Several metering options are available, including central focus, matrix, average, and single point metering.
You can also adjust exposure compensation between minus three and plus three stops. White balance presets include daylight, cloudy, tungsten, and fluorescent settings. The camera also offers 11 built in filters, allowing you to apply different visual styles directly during shooting.
Photo and Video Features
The camera captures still photos in JPEG format at three resolution levels: 36 MP, 24 MP, and 12 MP, with 12 megapixels set as the default option. ISO sensitivity can be left on automatic or adjusted manually from ISO 100 to ISO 6400 in photo mode.
Video recording is available at multiple resolutions, including 4K at 30 frames per second, 2K at 30 frames per second, and Full HD at 60 or 30 frames per second. Lower resolution 720p modes at 60 and 30 frames per second are also available. All video files are recorded in MP4 format, which makes them easy to transfer and edit.
The camera includes a built-in LED light that serves two functions. In photo mode it operates as a flash. In video mode it works as a continuous LED light for recording in darker environments.
A 3.0 inch LCD screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio flips outward, which can help you frame photos and videos from different angles. The screen resolution is 360 by 640 pixels. A built-in speaker allows you to review video clips directly on the device.

Portability and Storage
The camera is designed to be small enough for everyday carry. Its body measures 10 by 2 by 5.5 centimeters and weighs approximately 105 grams, placing it firmly in the pocket camera category. That size makes it easy to bring along on trips, casual outings, or street photography walks.
Power comes from a BL 5B lithium battery rated at 800 mAh and 3.7 volts. Charging and data transfer are handled through a USB Type C port.
Images and video clips are stored on Micro SD cards ranging from 8 GB to 256 GB. The camera requires Class 10 cards or higher with U3 speed ratings, which are necessary for reliable recording at higher video resolutions.
Auto power off settings are available with options for five or ten minutes, which helps preserve battery life when the camera is not in use.
Similar Compact Cameras
Compact digital cameras have seen renewed interest in recent years. Many photographers enjoy carrying a small camera that focuses on capturing moments rather than managing apps and notifications.
Manufacturers have responded with lightweight cameras that prioritize portability and simplicity. These devices usually feature fixed lenses, moderate resolution sensors, and limited but practical manual controls. Flip screens and direct video recording are also common additions.
Cameras in this category are often used for travel photography, street scenes, and everyday documentation. They offer a shooting experience that feels different from smartphone photography, even though the technical specifications may appear similar on paper. The Yashica model fits within this segment by combining simple controls, a small sensor, and a pocket friendly body designed for casual shooting.

Availability
Pre orders for the camera are currently open. Shipping is scheduled to begin during the week of March 27, 2026.
Early buyers may receive an additional accessory. According to the product announcement, the first 100 customers who place a pre order will receive a complimentary Yashica USB card reader.
The camera does not include a memory card in the box, so you will need to purchase a compatible Micro SD card separately before using the device.
