Viltrox 35mm f/1.4 Pro: Weather Sealing, Declicked Aperture, and Fast AF

Viltrox has added a serious entry to its Pro lineup with the AF 35mm f/1.4 for Sony E and Nikon Z mounts. It’s a full-frame prime aimed at portrait, street, travel, and video shooters who want a fast, versatile lens without paying flagship prices.
The optical formula packs 16 elements in 12 groups, including three ED elements, four HRI elements, and two aspherical elements. That combination is designed to suppress chromatic aberration and keep edges sharp wide open. Viltrox also claims minimal focus breathing, which matters a lot if you’re pulling focus on video.
Autofocus is handled by Viltrox’s HyperVCM motor. It’s linear, fast, and quiet, exactly what you want for subject tracking and video work. Physical controls are well thought out too. You get a customizable function button, manual aperture and focus rings, plus dedicated AF/MF and aperture click/de-click switches. The de-click option alone makes this lens video-friendly right out of the box. The 11-blade diaphragm should produce smooth, rounded bokeh at wider apertures. At f/1.4 on full-frame, background separation will be noticeable.
