Fujifilm’s New Instax Camera Saves the 4 Seconds Before a Photo

Sometimes, the best part of a photo happens just before the shutter clicks. A friend bursts out laughing, someone turns toward the camera, or a dog wanders into the frame. Fujifilm’s new Instax Mini Evo 2 aims to preserve some of that action, recording the four seconds before each photo so users can revisit the movement and atmosphere surrounding the shot.
The hybrid instant camera builds on the original Mini Evo with a larger touchscreen, new framing tools, and expanded ways to customize images. It still combines digital photography with instant prints, giving users the option to review their shots before committing them to film.
Four seconds before the shutter
The new Instax Immersive Movie feature records the four seconds leading up to each photo. Rather than preserving only a single instant, the camera can capture the small movements and reactions that happen before the picture is taken.
A microSD card, sold separately, is required for this feature. Fujifilm has not detailed the resulting video format or how the clips will be stored and shared, so users interested in the feature may want to check those details before buying.
The feature gives the Mini Evo 2 a different appeal from a conventional instant camera. A printed photo remains the main attraction, but the digital recording can preserve some of the context that a still image leaves out.

A touchscreen replaces the old way of framing
The Mini Evo 2 features a 4.5 inch LCD touchscreen for composing images, adjusting settings, and previewing content. Fujifilm has also added Instax Expanded View, which shows a wider view of the scene than the actual shooting area, along with an on screen framing guide.
That extra view could be useful when photographing groups or working in tight spaces. Seeing more of the surroundings helps users decide how to position their subjects before taking the picture, although the final image still depends on the camera’s actual shooting frame.

One hundred looks from a single camera
Fujifilm is keeping the Mini Evo series’ creative controls. Users can combine 10 lens effects with 10 film effects for 100 possible combinations, while adjustable exposure, white balance, and flash provide additional control over the final image.
The camera also includes a macro mode for close-ups and a built in selfie mirror. Users can choose between Instax Rich Mode for more vivid color and Instax Natural Mode for a more restrained look. Images print at 600 dpi onto Instax Mini film, which is sold separately.
The free Instax Mini Evo app adds smartphone printing and remote shooting. A USB Type C port handles charging, and a microSD card slot provides expandable storage.
Instant prints, with a little extra life
Fujifilm expects the Instax Mini Evo 2 to arrive in late November 2026, priced at $289.95 in the US and $379.99 in Canada. Film and microSD cards are additional purchases.
The new features add flexibility, but the camera’s appeal still rests on the simple pleasure of making a physical photo. For people who like instant prints but wish their pictures could hold on to a little more of the moment, those four seconds might become the most interesting part of the shot.
