Canon PowerShot Zoom was launched earlier this year, but only in Japan. If you got interested in this weird piece of gear, it’s now coming to the US as well, and shipping worldwide. So, let’s dive in and see what you get in this strange, tiny camera.

Canon PowerShot Zoom started as a concept camera, one of a few that Canon showed off at The Photography Show 2018. It’s a compact camera that looks kinda like a director’s lens. Although, the specs are quite different and so is the main purpose.

The camera combines a PowerShot point-and-shoot with the reach of a stabilized monocular. It packs a 12MP CMOS sensor and an electronic viewfinder. It provides 100-400mm equivalent zoom range, with the possibility of 2x digital zoom. This makes it ideal for things like birdwatching, wildlife viewing, or sports events.

Other than photos, Canon PowerShot Zoom also shoots full HD 1080p video up to 30 fps. It features continuous AF to keep your subjects in focus, and there’s even Face Tracking AF. There’s also electronic image stabilization that works for both stills and videos.

Take a look at the full specs and a few more photos:
