We just love it when animals strike a pose (okay, humans too). A rare Canada lynx was recently caught on camera posing better than some self-proclaimed models. The amazing footage was captured by the Voyageurs Wolf Project, offering a unique glimpse into the life of this elusive and threatened species.
The video, taken on April 11, shows the lynx casually strolling through the woods before settling down just a few feet from the trail camera. With a curious gaze and rotating ears, the majestic creature seemed almost aware of its starring role. The Canada lynx, known for its long fur and distinctive ear tufts, is a threatened species with an estimated population of 100 to 300 individuals in Minnesota. So, it’s not only rare to catch one on camera, but also to catch it posing this majestically.
“A lot of fortuitous things have to happen, not only for the lynx to sit there, but for the lighting to be nice, and for there to be that pretty, North Woods background,” said Biologist Tom Gable, leading the Voyageurs Wolf Project, adding that most of the trail cameras catch lynxes only at night or at a distance. Those are the things that make it really cool.”
