This website lets you merge photos with video and audio to make them talk

After Deep Nostalgia, here’s another tool that lets you animate your still images. Tokkingheads lets you choose a photo or avatar, merge it with a video to copy the moves from it, and even add audio to your creations. It’s a bit less impressive than Deep Nostalgia, but more fun and interactive… and I got totally hooked to playing with it!

Tokkingheads was created by Rosebud AI. As you can probably guess, it uses artificial intelligence to turn your still images into animated video clips. You can access it through the website, but it’s also available as an iPhone app.

You can pick a photo that’s already on the website and filter based on gender, occupation, or whether you want to animate real people, cartoon characters, or avatars. Alternatively, you can upload your own photo. You can leave it as is, or add various backgrounds and accessories (for now, only a Santa hat is available).

Next, you want to choose the video or audio to add to your animation. You can also type in the text of your own and select the voice that will read it. I was asked to sign up when I wanted to try the text option, so keep in mind that you’ll need to create an account to access some of the options.

The third step is to click on the “Generate Tokkinghead” button and your creation will appear in a few seconds. Once still image will be animated to blink, move its head, and lip-sync to the text or audio you assigned to it.

Of course, I couldn’t resist making my own “Tokkingheads,” and I made some hilarious ones, as well as some utter monstrosities. I also found some animations that cracked me up, like this one.

While Tokkingheads’ results are far from flawless, I found this website really fun to play with. However, I’m sure that this kind of technology will only get better and better. For now, it’s all fun and games, and I believe most of us would just use it to goof around. But it always gives me chills to think that it can be used for all kinds of fakery or humiliating others. Still, I’d like to end this article on a lighter note, so I’m leaving you the link to Tokkingheads and I hope that you’ll have fun with it as I did.
