Sony E-mount users, prepare yourselves. Techart has developed a Leica M-mount to Sony E-mount autofocus adapter.
As the below video details, the adapter automatically zooms in and out to nail the focal point, an unconventional method for an adapter, but one Techart isn’t new to.

Techart says development started ‘a few years ago.’ After debating the best method for obtaining autofocus with Leica M-mount lenses, they settled on a schematic similar to the one they use in their Contax G-mount to Sony E-mount adapter. That is, they adjust the flange distance to adjust the image’s focus.
In its current stage, Techart says the adapter has been tested with seven different M-mount lenses and works best with Sony A7II and A7rII cameras. Other E-mount cameras should work as well, but Techart says they cannot guarantee perfect results.
Aperture control is done manually and EXIF data can be included via an application that automatically saves shutter speed and aperture information.
There’s no word on when the adapter will go on sale or how much it’ll cost, but their Contax G-mount to Sony E-mount adapter costs around $250, so you can expect a price point somewhere around there.
