For all photographers and cinematographers, color temperature is one of the key areas to understand. If you’re new to it, it sounds complicated and overwhelming. But in this video from Kinetek, director and cinematographer Matthew Rosen will help you learn more about color temperature. You’ll learn how to understand it, and how to utilize it into your shots just the way you want.

The video covers many aspects of color temperature and puts it in only 12 minutes. Matthew starts from explaining the light waves, and smoothly moves on to other aspects of light such as color temperature and CRI (Color Render Index). He gives examples of different lights and their color temperature, and how you can combine them with gels to shift the light’s color.

Make sure to watch the entire video, as you’ll learn a lot about lights, color temperature, and color balance. As a matter of fact, it contains so much useful information, that you’ll need to watch it several times, and you can always return to it for some examples and explanations.
