These are some of the worst models professional photographers can work with

Dunja Đuđić

Dunja Djudjic is a multi-talented artist based in Novi Sad, Serbia. With 15 years of experience as a photographer, she specializes in capturing the beauty of nature, travel, concerts, and fine art. In addition to her photography, Dunja also expresses her creativity through writing, embroidery, and jewelry making.

Modeling has its dark side, as some photographers will use their title and position to exploit models. But there are two sides to each story, and there certainly are some models you wouldn’t want to work with even in your craziest dreams. In this video, Jordan Matter shares a few “horror stories” about some models he has worked with. In an amusing and humorous way, he shows us that it really takes all sorts to make a world.

With help from Natalia Taylor, Jordan demonstrates some of the weirdest shoots he has had so far. Natalia acts out a control freak model, a “germaphobe,” and of course a hungover model (I’ve personally heard of more than one cases of this). As we can see from the video, models can also be too flirty and put the photographer in an unpleasant situation. Some models can be jealous of other models at the set, or they can get too emotional for a variety of reasons. And of course, there are models who arrive late at the shoot, but also those that simply won’t leave.

Jordan isn’t calling out anyone in particular, but he shares some of his awkward situations in a very funny way. It’s a great video to brighten up your Monday, but it’s also a useful reminder for both photographers and models. Both parties should be professional, leave all the personal matters aside, and choose carefully who they want to work with.

‘some photographers will use their title and position to exploit models…but there are two sides to each story, models can also be too flirty and put the photographer in an unpleasant situation. Some models can be jealous of other models at the set, or they can get too emotional for a variety of reasons.’

This is ill-judged considering some of the horror stories that have been coming out about pro photographers recently. Models turning up hungover is NOT on a par with the predatory behaviour that models have to be on their guard against in the industry. I’m pretty horrified that this was written by a woman tbh. It reeks of victim-blaming and internalised misogyny.

You took my words out of context, combined them into something I didn’t actually write in the same sentence, and interpreted it your own way.

Of course that the horror stories about predatory photographers can’t be compared to these “horror stories” (which I, btw, put into quotation marks for a reason). This is just a humorous view of some of the awkward, unpleasant or unprofessional situations a photographer has had in his career.

I mainly wanted to show that lack of professionalism happens on both sides. It wasn’t my intention to *compare* sexual misconduct to showing up hungover. I’m sorry that you misinterpreted my intention.

It also makes me pretty sad that someone is calling me out for misogyny and victim-blaming based on misinterpreting my words, and without even knowing me. Those are pretty big and nasty accusations.

I took two sentences in the article and combined them with an ellipsis, which is a standard way of presenting an omission. Other than that the writing was presented verbatim. You may feel uncomfortable with my reading of it, but in a climate when several top photographers have been outed very recently as serial predators, writing a humorous article in response about how models can also be ‘unprofessional’ strikes me as tone-deaf at best.

Thank you for your apology, which I did not ask for, but it’s nice to know you’re sorry that I misinterpreted you.

My oh my – you must be the life of every party you attend! I do need to point out that using an “ellipsis” is an a signal of a person who suffers from IQ pretention syndrome. Stop signalling your superiority to oppress others! You should apologize to everyone!

So just because several photographers have been outed as perverts and sexual predators, models should be excused for their unprofessional behaviour and nobody should be able to talk about it?

That’s about as clear as example of victim blaming as you can get.

Howardo Mansfieldio Where did I say models should be excused unprofessional behaviour? I said that it’s inappropriate to link together sexual assault (as the writer does in the FIRST SENTENCE) and models being late/hungover/crazy.

“photographers will use their title and position to exploit models. But there are two sides to each story”

There are never two sides to exploitation. There’s the exploiter and the exploited. Dunja, you wrote something that wasn’t true and now you’re being called on it. LEARN from it.

Howardo, you clearly have no idea what victim blaming is.

    6. Leeja Morgan Avatar

Ben Edwards I think in his example the photographer, who is the victim of the model’s lack of professionalism, who is being blamed. Which is clearly the important issue here. ? To be clear – I would have no problem with this article if it didn’t reference the recent scandals regarding sexual misconduct in the industry. ‘It wasn’t my intention to compare’ ‘I just wanted to show that lack of professionalism happens on both sides’. Whatever you intended, that IS comparing the two and if that’s not what you wanted to suggest then I don’t understand why you’d reference it at all in this ‘humorous’ piece.

What about those who don’t even bother to show up

Hi, this is DIYphotopgraphy, all of our articles are complaints about the “industry” thanks for clicking so we make money.

    1. Leeja Morgan Avatar

      Wow. Such professionalism. See ya

    2. Ben Edwards Avatar

So you’ve no problem that one of your writers is saying that there are two sides to the exploitation of models? It’s all good clicks for you? And you don’t find that fantastically messed up?

This has to be the dumbest, most click baity video I’ve ever seen. She can’t act, and it is more to make fun of people than to call out specific types of unprofessional models. I’d highly recommend not watching
