Tamron has just announced 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A VC RXD for Sony E-mount APS-C cameras. The lens gives you a 25.5-105mm equivalent focal length range, which makes it pretty versatile. While the new lens will be ready for orders in January, Tamron has already released the specs and the pricing, so let’s what you can expect.

The Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A VC RXD is built from 16 elements in 12 groups, with two GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lens elements and one hybrid aspherical lens element. It packs Tamron’s VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism to minimize camera shake. “This VC mechanism leverages AI technology when shooting video,” Tamron writes, but there is no specific information about the mechanism.

The lens is compatible with Sony’s Fast Hybrid AF and Eye AF. The minimum focusing distance is 7.5” (19cm) at 17mm focal length, and 15.4” (39cm) at 70mm, so you can get quite close to your subjects. Let’s take a look at the full specs:

Of course, the current pandemic doesn’t allow us to have a fixed schedule for anything, so Tamron notes that it can happen that the release date changes. But we’ll keep you posted, and hopefully, we’ll see this lens ready for preorders in early 2021.
