Vivo’s X90 and X90 Pro have been out in China for a little while now, but today sees their global international launch. Both smartphones feature Zeiss cameras, with the X90 Pro sporting a large 1-inch sensor. Both smartphones feature 50-megapixel Zeiss camera modules, with the non-Pro model also sporting 12-megapixel telephoto and wide-angle cameras. The X90 Pro, on the other hand, features 50-megapixel wide and 12-megapixel telephoto cameras.

With Zeiss optics in both devices, featuring Zeiss’s T* lens coatings, pixel shift, dual-tone LED flash, HDR and panorama modes, the expectations are high for this one. The X90’s 50-megapixel 1/1.49″ sensor offers 4K video at up to 60fps, while the X90 Pro’s 50-megapixel 1-inch sensor lets you record up to 8K at 60fps. Both devices also include a 32-megapixel selfie camera that shoots up to 4K 30p.

Vivo V21 targets selfie-shooters and vloggers with optically stabilised 44-megapixel selfie camera

VIVO has announced their new V21 series smartphones, two of which (the V21 and V21 5G) feature probably the best selfie camera out there today. It’s an optically stabilised 44-megapixel front camera with an f/2.0 aperture. OIS isn’t new to selfie cameras on smartphones, but it’s the first time we’ve seen it pop up on a front camera for a long time – if we’re not counting the back-to-front flippy camera of the ASUS ZenFone 6. Which we’re not, really.

The camera resides in a little notch at the top of the screen and has two LEDs embedded to act as a flash in dimmer conditions. Unlike many other front-cameras on smartphones, even flagship smartphones, this selfie camera also has real autofocus.

VIVO launches its X60 smartphone series internationally with Zeiss cameras

Well, it looks like it’s Leica vs Hasselblad vs Zeiss now in the smartphone camera market. VIVO has just unleashed their new X60 series smartphones on the world, including the X60, X60 Pro and X60 Pro+. The X60 and X60Pro launched in China in December of last year, but now they’re going global. The X60 Pro+ is only launching in India and China (at least for now), so we’re not going to talk about that one here (although it has an extra camera).

While there are some differences between the X60 and X60 Pro, both contain the same set of cameras. But the big difference is that the main camera on the X60 Pro is gimbal stabilised, as it was in last year’s VIVO X50 Pro/X51 5G. And both come in at a significantly lower price than the recently announced OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro.

Well, it looks like Huawei’s not the only one with high photographic sights as smartphone manufacturer Vivo has also announced a partnership with Zeiss for camera development in their new X60 series. There will be three models in the X60 series – the regular X60, the X60 Pro and the X60 Pro+.

The first two smartphones have already made their public debut, but the third has not. Allegedly leaked renders found online, however, suggest that the X60 Pro+ may feature a quad-camera unit, bearing that famous Zeiss logo.

The world of smartphones moves thick and fast these days, and a lot of them all start to look the same after a while, but this is one announcement I’ve definitely been waiting for. Chinese smartphone company, vivo has today announced their expansion into Europe and they’ve announced a new phone – sort of.

It’s the X51 5G, which is essentially the European release of the X50 Pro, from the company’s flagship X series and it features a gimbal stabilised camera. You might remember the gimbal camera was first teased in the vivo Apex concept camera back in March, expected for the X50 in May and then released in China in June. Now, it’s coming to Europe.

Vivo’s new IFEA concept smartphone has a removable pop-up selfie camera

I know not everybody’s a fan of the pop-up selfie cam – mechanical moving parts n’ all – but I think they’re fantastic. They free up that screen space, they aren’t hindered by having to try to look through the display, and there’s no risk of scratching them when your phone’s just rolling around in your pocket.

Chinese smartphone manufacturer VIVO, though, has taken the pop-up selfie cam to a whole new level with their new IFEA concept camera – which has won a Red Dot Award for the design. And it opens up a whole host of possibilities for modular cameras in future smartphones. No longer might you need to upgrade your entire phone to get better shots!

Vivo’s X50 flagship smartphone expected to have a huge gimbal-like camera module

Vivo’s next flagship smartphone will have a giant gimbal-style camera, a teaser posted to Chinese social media site, Weibo suggests. The gimbal-like smartphone camera technology was first shown off in March in Vivo’s Apex 2020 concept phone.

According to The Verge, Vivo was inspired by the way a chameleon’s eye works and its effectiveness and that this system 200% more effective than the types of optical image stabilisation found in most smartphone cameras today. If the implications in the teaser hold true, this will be its first implementation in a commercial device.

The camera in Vivo’s new APEX concept smartphone features a built-in “gimbal”

It’s amazing how small they can make tech these days. Vivo has unveiled its latest update on the APEX concept line. Famous for showing off some pretty insane concepts for future phones, many of their predictions have come true. Popup selfie cameras, under-screen fingerprint readers, and almost completely button-and-bezel-free designs.

In Vivo’s latest concept device, the front-camera has come back, sitting underneath the display, but the main rear-camera also sees a pretty significant new feature. Taking optical image stabilisation (OIS) to the next level, they’ve essentially built it into a gimbal.
