During NAB 2019, DIYP had the chance to sit down with DP Rah Sharma on the Zhiyun stand to talk about how he uses the Zhiyun Crane 3 LAB for shooting cinematic footage. As you can see from the rig Rah’s using, which includes a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K in a SmallRig cage with a matte box, the Crane 3 LAB can take some serious weight.
When it comes to editing on location, particularly video, the biggest challenge is finding laptops with enough grunt to really let you get the performance you need to work through things quickly. And while there are some great laptops out there for this kind of work, you do start to feel those bottlenecks after a while.
ASUS has a response to that, though, with the new ASUS StudioBook S W700, a laptop offering an Intel Xeon CPU, up to 64GB RAM, up to 4TB M.2 storage and an Nvidia Quadro GPU. DIYP spoke with ASUS at NAB 2019 about the new StudioBook S laptop and its capabilities.
The latest Creative Cloud update from Adobe brought with it a lot of new features, changes and fixes for the whole suite. Three of the biggest are content-aware fill for video in After Effects, Freeform view for Premiere Pro and some pretty massive GPU performance upgrades. DIYP spoke with Adobe at NAB 2019 about these new updates and what they mean for users.
G-Technology has been a trusted name in portable hard drives for a long time. I’ve been using their ev ATC drives myself as my location backup solution myself. But as storage and speed demands increase, technology has to move forward. G-Technology was at NAB 2019, so DIYP had a chat with them about some of their location backup and editing workflow storage solutions.
One of the products I was keen to see at NAB 2019 was the new Ricca action camera from Feiyutech. A popular name when it comes to gimbals, action cameras are a new market for Feiyutech, so I was interested to see just what it was like. We had a chat with Feiyutech about the new Ricca action camera, and also discovered a couple of other new products, too. The AK4500 3-axis motorised gimbal for DSLRs and mirrorless cameras, a dual handle frame, and the Feiyu Qing, a remote control pan & tilt head.
Recently added to the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K firmware to replace CinemaDNG, Blackmagic RAW (BRAW) is an impressive format, capable of producing some pretty amazing quality footage in relatively small file sizes. At NAB 2019, we had the chance to sit down and talk with Blackmagic about the new BRAW format, the recent firmware update for the Pocket 4K, as well as the new battery grip.
Announced last month, the Insta360 EVO is the latest camera from Insta360. Like many of their previous cameras the EVO is a 360-degree camera for shooting immersive content. Unlike the previous models, though, this one can also be used to shoot 3D 180 degree content, too. The 360 form unfolds to put the two 180 degree lenses side-by-side for left and right eye viewing. DIYP spoke with Insta360 at NAB 2019 to find out more about the EVO.
The Sigma/Leica/Panasonic alliance has been big news since it was officially announced at Photokina 2018. We’ve already seen two new full frame L mount cameras from Panasonic, and now Sigma’s Art series prime lenses are going L mount. Sigma brought some of the new L Mount prototype lenses to NAB 2019 so we had a quick look. Yyou’ll also be able to use your Canon EF & Sigma SA lenses with the new Panasonic S1 and S1R using the MC-21 mount adapter.
The Godox AD200 has been out for a couple of years now. But ever since the release of the AD600Pro and AD400Pro, customers have been asking for an updated AD200 with the colour consistency and performance of its larger siblings. Now, the Godox AD200Pro is here, it’s real, and it offers that same level of colour consistency, with 1.8 second recycle times, 1/10th stop power increments and a new recessed LCD panel for better protection.
