After a thread on Reddit exploded with rumors regarding the forthcoming (and highly anticipated) GoPro 4, news about the details of the action camera began seeming more and more reliable. The Reddit thread is now reporting that Michael Zhang says he can confirm the rumors in a post he wrote over on PetaPixel.

It looks like GoPro has been listening to it’s consumers as they have added several important upgrades including the ability to record 4k video at 30 fps. (Previous versions could only recocrd 4k at 15 fps). However, only the GoPro Hero 4 Black will feature the 4k at 30fps upgrade. Instead of higher frame rates at 4k, the GoPro Hero 4 Silver will get a new touch screen LCD to help take the guesswork out of farming shots. Unfortunately, according to Zhang, the touch screen will not be available on the Hero 4 Black edition.

I have to admit, I love the idea of a smartphone that has Leica glass more than I like the idea of attaching a giant lens to my existing smartphone. While both have their downfalls, it’s still nice to see phone manufacturers really starting to get inventive and pushing the technology that drives our phone’s ever important camera elements. Jumping on that bandwagon is a start up company named Relonch which is looking to enter the competitive world of smartphone photography with the release of a new iPhone case. The Relonch case appears to pack quite a punch in terms of what it can do for your phone’s current camera.[Read More…]

As more people abandon their point and shoots for the ease of their smartphones, Panasonic is hoping to stay relevant by establishing a strong foothold in the smartphone industry and, by the looks of it, they may have knocked it out of the park with their forthcoming LUMIX DMC-CM1. Panasonic has dubbed the 20 megapixel device a smartcamera–a smartphone in which impeccable detail has been placed on the device’s camera function. And, indeed, the camera elements of the device certainly do not disappoint.[Read More…]

We knew it was coming and there you have it. Just one day ahead of Photkina and Canon announces the Canon 7D Mark II. While there are no big surprises, there is an interesting spec to go through:. As far as new stuff, Canon did not do much on the body, a bit smaller and a bit heavier than the mk1, but all the buttons just about remained the same. The internals however are completely renovated:

From the outside, the FujiFilm X100T, which just became available for pre-sale, maintains the classic styling of it’s ever popular predecessor, the Fujifilm X100S. Yet, while Fujifilm may not have found it necessary to add too many upgrades or embellishments to the camera’s outer-body, the X100T has undergone a series of internal upgrades, all of which make this sleek, small fixed lens a serious contender in the increasingly tough mirrorless camera market.

If the Zeiss Otus can be described as superb quality at a superb price, Samyang (known as Rokinon in the US) can be described as Good quality at a good price. This a reason that many choose those lenses as go to lenses when starting out and looking for decent quality primes and wide angles.

Today, Samyang announced the addition of a new lens to their arsenal: The Samyang 12mm 1:2.8 ED AS NCS. This is an Uber wide lens, with a 180˚ field of view on a full frame  sensor and a 118˚-124.6˚on APS-C.

For the past few years now, Apple’s keynotes have highlighted how the iPhone has now become the world’s most popular camera.
