Flickr’s future uncertain as Verizon seem set to buy Yahoo for $5 billion

It’s not new information that Yahoo has been struggling. It may have been one of the Internet’s original giants, but they just can’t keep up and compete today. Google dominates the search market, Messenger usurped by Facebook, no real mobile platform, and no solid leadership. It’s not looking good.

About the only things Yahoo have left that are really all that useful to the general Internet population are Flickr and Tumblr. Now, Recode reports that Verizon are about to take up the reins in a $5 billion acquisition of Yahoo.

Bowens Lighting and Calumet Photographic acquired by AURELIUS, bad news for Bowens?

After Calumet’s closure of US based retail stores and filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2014, it was pretty clear they were in trouble.  With Bowens, this news comes as something of a surprise, however pulling out of The Photography Show at the last minute was a big clue that something was up.

Now, both companies are reported to have been acquired by investment company AURELIUS.

Western Digital becomes one stop shop for digital storage, completes acquisition of SanDisk

In an effort to branch out from the spinning disc technology of its hard drives, Western Digital have announced that they have completed their acquisition of SanDisk.

In a deal costing Western Digital $17 billion in cash and shares, it puts the company in a great position to compete with companies like Samsung in the solid state memory market.

GoPro buys out two video editing startups for $105 million to boost its software

Action cam manufacturer GoPro has been in hot water lately, between recent lawsuits and steadily-declining stocks. But that isn’t stopping them from trying to up their game with the help of a few new acquisitions.

Earlier this week, GoPro announced it has acquired Paris-based Stupeflix and Austin, Texas-based Vemory in a deal totaling $105 million in stock and cash.[Read More…]

Sony inks deal to acquire Toshiba’s image sensor business, facilities

This week has been acquisition galore. First, the rumor of Nikon buying out Samsung’s NX sensor business (which has since been denied by the latter of the two), then came news that Phase One acquired Mamiya for its medium format technology.
