New Year, New Hobby: Bird Photography

At CES 2026, Birdbuddy, that plucky company that turned “just another bird feeder” into something your family might start accusing of stealing attention from your social life, unveiled not one, but two next-generation smart bird feeders. Yes, now even the squirrels will be demanding push notifications.
First up in this avian high-tech parade is the Birdbuddy 2, a feeder so advanced that Blue Jays are reportedly forming unions to negotiate better camera angles. This flagship unit boasts high-definition imaging, advanced AI species recognition, and a wide field of view calibrated to capture birds doing everything except paying feeder rent. It even includes dual integrated solar panels so it charges itself while basking in the sun like a very nerdy beachgoer.

Next up, there’s also the Birdbuddy 2 Mini! It’s basically a new “fun-sized” birdwatching experience, perfect for condos, balconies, or anyone who just wants to know why that cardinal won’t text back. The Mini packs almost all the same camera and AI goodness of the Birdbuddy 2, but into a compact body, with an optional solar panel attachment if you’re environmentally conscientious or just love accessories.

Both feeders are designed to detect feathered visitors instantly, wake the camera, and capture glorious footage before the birds even realize they’ve become internet celebs. Whether it’s a hummingbird diva striking a pose or a sparrow that should’ve stayed in bed, Birdbuddy’s camera has you covered.
It’s a Bug’s Camera
In classic CES fashion, Birdbuddy didn’t stop at feeders. They also brought the Petal Smart Nature Camera that is part of their burgeoning Wonder ecosystem, which promises to record all creatures great and small, from buzzing bees to that one overly curious raccoon. The device crushed its Kickstarter goals, raising millions in 2025, which is basically the bird-watching equivalent of going platinum.

In short, Birdbuddy has elevated backyard birdwatching from “loose birdseed + binoculars” to an “AI-powered, solar-charged, cloud-connected nature documentary.” Soon, your neighbors won’t just envy your lawn, they’ll be begging to borrow your Wi-Fi so they can watch birds with you as a new wholesome block party ritual. Who knew that watching birds could be this techy fun or that birds would tolerate being filmed so much?
