Canon EOS R and Nikon Z are getting the first third-party lenses. Chinese company Kipon is releasing ELEGANT, a line-up of five prime lenses for both Nikon’s and Canon’s full-frame mirrorless cameras.

According to Kipon, the company has gained rich experience after 6 years of “non-stop learning for how to make high quality lenses.” At the end of December 2018, it will release five primes for Nikon Z and Canon EOS R, ranging from 24mm to 90mm. All lenses will be manual focus, with f/2.4 aperture, and here are the lenses and the expected prices:

  • 24mm/f2.4: $499
  • 35mm/f2.4: $468
  • 50mm/f2.4: $325
  • 75mm/f2.4: $355
  • 90mm/f2.4: $386

Considering that they’re manual focus lenses, the price seems fair. For comparison, Nikon Z 50mm f/1.8 is around $600 and the Nikon Z 35mm f/1.8 is around $850. On the other hand, Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 IS Macro is around $500, which is almost the same as Kipon’s counterpart.

For now, there are no detailed specs of the lenses. But in case you’re interested in buying an affordable third-party lens for your new mirrorless toy, we’ll keep you up to date and share the specs when Kipon announces them.
