The likes of B+W and Lee have pretty much dominated the strong neutral density filter market for the last few years. Both of their 10 stop NDs are excellent, and then Lee upped the game with their 15 stop Super Stopper. Now, Irix is expanding their new line of Edge filters with a 15 stop ND3200 screw-on neutral density filter.

The Irix ND3200 has an optical density of 4.5 and reduces the incoming light by 15 stops. This allows you to get exposure times of up to 5 minutes on a bright sunny day. Or, you could potentially get hours on a dull day.

The filter features a special waterproof and oil repellent nanocoating, which protects the surface from stains and fingerprints. It also facilitates use of the filter in extreme weather. As it’s a screw-on filter, there’s no potential for light leaks around the edges, nor are the edges of the filter exposed, preventing internal reflections.

This filter adds to the existing Irix Edge family of filters which includes circular polarisers, UV and less powerful neutral density filters in various diameters.

The new Irix ND3200 will cost €159 and is expected to go on sale sometime in the next few days.
