The Aurora Borealis has been particularly spectacular this week, with sightings seen as far south as at the Stone Henge monument in the UK. Not to be left out, astronauts on board the International Space Station also captured some stunning images from a different perspective.
Astronaut Josh Cassada recently shared an image of Earth enjoying the Northern lights from 250 miles above. He described the light show as “absolutely unreal”.

The image shows the green glow of the aurora over the surface of the globe, along with the bright city lights and part of the space station.
The solar flares from the sun that cause the aurora have been especially powerful recently. Aurora spotters have seen them much further south than usual, with the lights being seen in parts as far south as Wales and Southern England.
Of course, this isn’t the first time that the aurora has been photographed from space. Astronaut Thomas Pesquet captured a breathtaking image of the blue Aurora Australis, or Southern lights, during his time on the space station.
