I say Nikon, you say…tripods?

Nikon_Canon_TripodWhen I type the word ‘Nikon’, what comes to mind? Cameras, optics and maybe speedlights? Whatever your answer was, I have a feeling it didn’t include tripods.

Until this morning, when I came across this article on Nikon Rumors, I had no idea the Japanese multinational corporation sold not just one tripod, but an entire arsenal, each with their own height, head and intended use. Options range from $25 for a compact pan-tilt tripod to a $385 carbon fiber tripod with a pan-tilt head.

This revelation lead me to wonder if any other camera giants also sells tripods. Lo and behold, it appears Canon also sells tripods…or at least did. Currently, Canon’s offerings are listed as ‘Out of Stock’ on Canon’s online store.

CanonTripodAlthough I can neither confirm nor deny this, I would assume these are white-labelled tripods manufactured by a separate entity and sold to Nikon and Canon for adding their own branding.

Do any DIY Photography readers own a Canon or Nikon tripod? If so, what’s been your experience with it? Online reviews seem difficult to come by.
