How to shoot professional product shots on a budget at your own home

If you want to take professional-looking product shots, you don’t need fancy gear and a studio. As a matter of fact, you can do it for under $30 without leaving your own home. In this video, Jakob Owens of TheBuffNerds will show you how to do it, and you can apply this technique to product photos and product videos.

All you need is two reflective backdrops you can get on Amazon for $27, and an LED light. Jacob uses this one, but you can use the light of your choice. If you do photography or video, you probably already have one (or a few) at home.

You can use both backdrops of the same color, or make one black and one white, it’s up to you. Place one on the bottom and the other behind the subject. Set everything up and shoot in a dark room, so the ambient light doesn’t interfere with the shot. Set the camera and shoot as you move the light around the subject. For photos, use a longer exposure, and play with angles and speed.

I like it that you can use this technique for both product stills and videos and that you can shoot at home. Also, you most likely already have the light, maybe even the backdrops. So, try it out for your next project and let us know if it works for you.
