demon-eyes

We all love the dark demon eyes looking back at us from a picture or movie. It just tells you that that model you’re looking at will devour your soul, damning it to hell for all eternity.

And here’s how you can turn your models into soul-hunting demons and have them look cool at the same time. It’s a subtle trick but it will give great impact to your image.

If you are lucky to have a good concept you’ll probably make sure you have some black sclera lenses for your model to put in. But if you don’t have them there’s an easy way to get the effect in photoshop as well.

In the video below I’ll walk you through the steps to create such dark eyes.

There are a few things to consider while creating them.:

  • keep your highlights, they make your eyes really pop, if you just use a plain black fill color, they will look like the dark realms of hell, but they won’t sell the image. So keep those highlights and catchlights active. If your image lacks real catchlights, draw in your own, or just add a small little white highlight  in there using the standard photoshop soft brush.
  • use a curve adjustment layer to darken the eyes. Instead of just painting in the eye with a black brush, use curves to darken it down. This way some details will stay present, and it keeps the eye from looking too flat.
  • Layer your adjustment layers, don’t go full out with just one curve adjustment layer, but stack a few on top to keep control.
  • If you want to add a bit more effect, it will help if you darken the eyelines, or add some blood red to the mix
