The AOHi Magflash is a charging cable with 512GB of storage

Now that phones like the iPhone 15 Pro Max and IQOO 12 can record in formats like 4k60 or even 8K, many mobile content creators are quickly discovering the huge hurdle in utilizing such high-resolution formats: storage. These formats eat up your phone’s drive in the blink of an eye, so creators turned to a different solution: external storage. In theory, this solves the problem; you just get more storage, and you can swap drives if you really need to.

The issue is that most external drives are meant for PCs, so they feel relatively big and uncomfortable when connected to a phone. Not to mention, they take up your one and only USB-C port, so you can’t charge your phone while using them. Because of this, new storage solutions had to be invented, such as the new AOHi MagFlash ($119).

The AOHi MagFlash

The AOHi MagFlash double acts as an external drive of 512GB and as a charger. It’s not a power bank, but it does allow you to connect your phone to one through itself, giving you access to more storage and power at the same time. As mentioned earlier, this is highly helpful for phones, as they only have one port, but there is nothing stopping you from later connecting the MagFlash to your PC, tablet, or even game console if really need be.

AOHi calls the MagFlash a “charging cable with a storage function”, but you can think of it as just a small external drive. The AOHi MagFlash is a USB 3.2 device with read and write speeds of up to 1000MB/s. To put this into perspective, it takes the MagFlash 2 seconds to transfer a 1GB file.

As the MagFlash is effectively just a drive in the form of a cable, you can adjust it freely with extension cables, spring cables, and USB adapters to suit your needs and devices in the form you choose. AOHi also implemented an E-MARKER chip, which adjusts the current through the cable to meet the requirements of any device you wish to connect to the MagFlash. In combination with its up to 240W of charging power, you can use the MagFlash to charge a device like the MacBook Pro without worrying about anything frying.

In paragraph two you say that it’s not possible to charge a USB-C connected iPhone with external storage attached.

I’ve just tested an Anker power pass through hub with SD memory and a Crucial SSD attached and it will allow the device to be charged whilst transferring data from the SD card to the SSD.
