2014 World Cup Calendar Is an Amazing Work Of Lighting, Photography & Compositing

Getting photograpger Tim Tadder and CGI master Mike Campau on the same project is probably as high-end as it gets. THe two recently collaborated on the production of the 2014 World Cup Calendar.

The project involved shooting 12 of the common moves done in football (soccer if you live in the USA) by gorgeous models.
Tim shares that “The challenge was to create dynamic images of the women in action but still have a high level of female sexuality. There was a balance between being true to the “move” but at the same time showing the best assets of the models“
While it is hard to tell, the locations were shot by Tim separately from the shooting the models and Digital Artist Mike Campau later composited the models into carefully reconstructed CGIed sets.
The video below shows some of the lighting involved and when I asked Tim about it he replied that:
“The lighting in each shot was determined based upon the scene/background. We crafted each lighting scene to match the lighting of the background based upon plates that I had shot the week before. If you look closes, each image has a custom lighting arrangement to highlight the best body parts as well as the help anchor them into the scene…” – see if you can spot those in the video.
If you wonder about the steps of bringing such an image to life, here is an animated gif that shows the process, followed by a plate of CGIing one of the locations.

And here are the remaining 11 moves/months

I don’t care about football.. but I’d buy this! Love tim’s work
Phenomenal!! Inspires me to work harder!
The women all look like they are computer generated. Airbrushed and fake. They might as well just done it all on the computer and not even gone out it looks that fake.
The “water wigs” segment that is linked at the end of the video is far more interesting than this piece of photoshopped cheesecake drivel. (click on the center link)
This is sooo kitsh, so plastic feel.
Definitely not my cup of tea…
It must be hard work being TIm Tadder but someone has to do it!
I have to agree this is so fake looking… more a video game than anything. Also its a bit cynical… Football = Guys who will appreciate looking at models… didn’t really try hard there did they?
It is a commonly known fact that Brazilian models actually have two extra vertebra, making them the slinkiest models in existence.
What about the head that is too huge for her body? Or the creepy pose.
I just don’t know. You’d think a pro photographer could get body proportions right, but it actually doesn’t seem that that’s the case. Too much CGI happened. These pictures look like Grand Theft Auto V screenshots. =[
12 of the common moves in football??? A complete lack of understanding of football…and female sexuality by the look of it.
fake.plactic.photoshopped.bad.sorry
Nice. This shows how post-processing can make miracles in every photo. Don’t get me wrong, the models did their job, but the success of these photos are a product of a seasoned photographer. Tim is definitely one of the best nowadays. Coupled with good CGI’s and awesome lighting, he is definitely a master of the craft. Nice post by the way.

Slap me for saying this, but the images would be so much better without the cartoonish and plastic women in them. I’m all for the pinup fantasy women, but there’s really something disturbing about the lifeless and WAY over ‘shopped females.
Whilst I appreciate the work that has gone in to creating these images (and I do think they are well crafted, much better than I would even attempt) I find the content rather creepy. Maybe if the models were actual international players of either gender or maybe if they were appropriately attired in actual football kits it wouldn’t leave me so unnerved. It seems designed to bring blatant sexualisation to an area where it is not needed. There is a time and place for glamour photography and I don’t think this is it. That’s not an insult to the artists tho but to the guy who came up with the design brief.
On an upbeat note, the element of CGI does make a lot of sense to me in these days of cross-platform media/gaming. It ties in the actual sport with its very popular virtual versions.
Hi Tim, can I have the phone number of the idiot(s) who paid for this…
It’s digital paintings not photographs.
More phony HDR nonsense. Sure this isn’t some gimmicky campaign for Hooters ! Complete waste of time and some fools money !
As I scrolled down, each image was worse than the previous one! Number 9 looks like she’s about to trip over herself. And how about some facial expressions…. The last one, with the model doing a somersault, she should have SOME expression on her face.
Another thumbs-DOWN vote for this project.
Some of the worst cheesiest post production I have seen. Should of just used an illustrator.

I just came across these images. LOVE THEM. I realize the models are cartoonish but open your eyes and see the entire image not just the model! There are a lot of moving parts here. I commend the tastefulness in incorporating the stadiums, National team colors, Brazilian architecture/attractions/topography in the background, i.e., Cristo Redentor, and, hey, I just learned the 12 top futbol moves executed by female models who probably worked very hard as did the photographer to get the shots. Accolades to Tim and Mike and models for their creativity into a new dimension…
can i use your photos in android puzzle game ?
The whole thing looks way to faked. Don’t get me wrong I love photoshop and lovely women but this is overkill and tacky montage.
Almost all of these pics just SCREAM “Photoshop Disaster”.

This may be artwork to some (I am not sure), but I kinda feel like they could have been more true to the moves, and less editing should have happened. I feel kinda like they designed them to be on the front of Maxim or something, but didn’t do such a good job on the editing.
Hi,
We just launched our new photography product on Kickstarter and are trying to
get traffic to the campaign page. Would you be interested in writing
about it? Here is a link to the campaign page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1436033315/dixie-grip-rotating-handheld-or-mounted-hotshoe-gr
I see very little to do with photography. This is massively over processed rubbish.
I feel like I’m being trolled somehow with this post. These photos are, by any objective measure, dreck. Unless they are reprinted on a felt poster to be hung on a wall in a 12 year old’s bedroom. In 1983.
“2014 World Cup Calendar is an Amazingly Awful Work of Lighting, Photography, Composting, and Yet Another Example of the Objectification of Women”
There, fixed the title of the article for you…
This collection has nothing at all to do with football, just someone trying to use sex and objectification of women to sell some calendars to primitive minded people.
Sorry, but this not “amazing”
So fake girls, strange poses and very anatomically incorrect …
So much unnatural CGI images.
The photos look as phoney as Arjen Robben’s dive against Mexico.
this is freaking disgusting. pubescent male fantasies aren’t art or artful. Or new. PUDS.
‘tog looks like Alexi Lalas.
Love the retro effect, I think most of the comments were based on self taste, rather then quality of work. Very good lighting and imagination.

I didn’t bother to read the first bit, so I actually thought they were drawn. These girls look so fake it’s ridiculous.
great post thanks for sharing
