Mexico just won the World Photographic Cup 2023. If you’ve never heard of it, don’t worry, you’re in good company! The competition has been going since 2013 and, unbelievably, just celebrated its tenth anniversary.
The World Photographic Cup (WPC) was started to foster a sense of unity and friendship among photographers across the world. That’s a pretty lofty goal, and it’s a pity that, to date, the WPC official Instagram account only has 3000 followers.
Each country is able to enter one team into the competition. To be part of the team, you must be vetted and approved by a national association and committee.
According to the website, the WPC is the only Olympic’s style photography competition in the world. “Over the past ten years, the competition has grown and with it the standard of entries,” says WPC’s inaugural chief executive officer, Giuseppe Scozzi. “WPC truly showcases the best in photography from across the world. Those who do succeed can truly claim to have created the best photography in the world, and WPC is the vehicle for showcasing this work.”
This is the second year in a row that Mexico has won. Australia came second place, with the United States bringing in third. The categories include commercial, fine art, portrait, landscape, wildlife, journalism, and wedding. The winning images are staggeringly beautiful in all categories. View them here on the competition’s official website.

There is? 50 years working in photography and never heard of it.
