New iPhone App To Create Lighting Diagrams
I know you love lighting diagrams. We all do. So if you are a Lighting Diagrams freak (or a Stobist) at heart this will make you happy.
The good guys over at strobox created a lighting diagram that fits on the iPhone. Now, it is true that you can surf to the Lighting Diagram Creator site via the iPhone, but it feel better using this dedicated app.
Even better news after the jump.Wanna hear more good news - it is free. OK, free as far as money goes, you can pay back in compliments, helping to improve the tool and providing feedback.
Here is what I got in the mail from Janis Lanka, one of the developers.
Oh, this will be totally free forever. This actually is a part of some upcoming bigger community website, but that will be only after 4-5 months. But as far as this app, it will be free and we'll add more equipment and all for free. Believe it or not, we did think to charge for it, but then decided that it would be a really big obstacle for people. We want that more people use it, rather than less
I love this, just the spirit for the holidays and a true community give-back.
Now, believe it or not, I don't actually have an iPhone (yet), so if anyone uses this app, it would be nice if you shared the experience in the comments with an old and iPhoneless chap.
The only thing left now is to create a radio trigger for the iPhone.

Really Great!!!
Works really great, just downloaded it it its a lot of fun and fast!!!!
Just loaded this onto my
Just loaded this onto my phone and started playing around with it. I can already see some great potential for notating how I set up for shoots (for at least reminding myself) and even planning out lighting for future shoots.
Nice find!
Strobox
I just tried the app : works nicely, you can save diagrams and send them via e-mail. The main screen is blank when you begin, then shows saved diagrams once you've created some with the app.
I guess many improvements could be done, of course, such as :
- adding more equipment
- the ability to upload sample pictures on the iPhone and to attach them to a diagram, to show the results)
- maybe give a name to the diagrams, and the ability to add notes ? This can be useful, I guess... especially for those who will create many diagrams.
but it is already a very nice app, especially when you compare it to the huge amount of non-free, useless iPhone photography apps !
Strobox
Got it. Love it. I'll give it an 8 out of 10.
Improvements needed:
Edit previously saved diagrams.
Name saved diagrams.
Increase/decrease real estate. (pinch/tap)
Duplicate, edit, make notes on diagrams.
Fantastic
Love the app guys! Great start and very grateful... however (unless i am missing a button) there is no way to annotate the lights and add powers! If you added this function you would make my day!
This looks really nice! I'll
This looks really nice! I'll grab it and see if I can't get a little video showing it in action. If so, I'll be sure to let you know so you can post it or link to it. ~aaron pearson

OMG
This is AMAZING! thank you so much!!!
Excellent App
That's a fantastic idea for an app. I was thinking of something similar for the PC. I haven't really looked around to see if something is available. I was wondering if there were any chances of this being ported to other smart phones...ie Windows Mobile compatible phones?
Brilliant
Thanks for this app - it's brilliant :-)
