I don’t know if it has anything to do with the current situation, but Instagram seems to be working hard on improving its web-based experience. After enabling direct messaging from a browser, Instagram now lets you watch live streams from your computer, too.
Users started to notice that Instagram live streams have become available through a browser. For all of us who are staying at home, I believe this can come in handy. I don’t know about you, but I prefer watching live streams on a screen larger than my phone.
There are currently no live streams among the accounts I follow so I can’t share my impressions. Engadget writes that the experience is similar to live stream we are used to seeing on our phone app. Two-person streams are supported, but comments are separate from the video thanks to the extra screen space. This is great because you won’t see a bunch of random text obscuring the video.
On the minus side, you can’t start a live stream from your computer. If you want to broadcast something, you’ll still need to use the phone app. Still, if you rather watch than broadcast live streams yourself, I believe that accessing them from the browser will come in handy. If nothing else, because of a much larger screen.
