Stock photo website shares its wonderfully weird images and searches

I’ve worked on DIYP for years and during this time, I’ve come across dozens of weird images on stock websites. But imagine how many more there are among millions of photos uploaded and searched for every day.

Folks at the stock website Depositphotos created a collection comprised precisely of these weird stock photos and searches. It’s titled Weirdly Wonderful Searches 2023 and it’s exactly as it sounds – so weird, that it’s wonderful!

“With more than 250 million images in the Depositphotos library, we’ve seen it all,” Depositphotos write on their blog. “From users looking for pictures of unicorns on Mars to images of talking vegetables. And let’s not forget the typos! ‘Machu Pikachu’ or ‘Machu Picchu,’ which one did you mean?” The Weirdly Wonderful Searches 2023 consists of the weirdest, strangest, most ridiculous photos on the stock photo website platform. As the blog post notes, these will make you question the sanity of the human race (as if I don’t already question it).

Depositphotos notes that, if you can imagine something, chances are that they have a stock photo for it. But some searches are just so wacky that they’re hard to believe. Here are some of their favorites:

  • Man with a horse head
  • Vegetables with eyes
  • Knees band the other way
  • Cupcake as a stone
  • Jesus working

And these are some hilarious typos:

  • Corgi shorts — cargo shorts
  • Battlehsheep — Battleship
  • Machu Pikachu — Machu Picchu
  • Civil rights cat — civil rights act
  • Hiphoppotamus — hippopotamus

Depositphotos even imagined what would happen if these searches and results ended up in read ads. Jesus advertising summer holidays is my absolute favorite, but some of these are actually quite good when put in context.

In the era of AI that can create almost anything you can imagine, it makes me happy and encouraged to see these photos. It means that there are still many photographers who use their own creativity, imagination, and weirdness to create hilarious and completely surreal images. Here are some of my favorites from Depositphotos’ collection, and make sure to explore it here.
