Here is a video pushing my faith in humanity just a bit int he wrong direction. Greek photography site, PTTL, shared a story and a video showing a person borrowing a Sony camera and a lens from the photographer’s bag.
According to PTTL, photographers Vagelis Tolis and Stavros Kostakos were covering a wedding at St. Dionysius Areopagite Catholic Cathedral in Athens on December 27th. You can see one of the photographers handling the gear, then going about their shooting routine. A man sits by the gear and “relocates” a Sony camera and a lens into a bag he brought with him. That man then exits the cathedral with the camera and the lens.

This is a reminder that while most of the people are good, you still need to be careful with your gear.

Look, even the church had enough sense to put CCTVs. Never ever trust your gear to the kindness of strangers. I hope the tog gets his gear back but David’s advice is well placed. If you’re a working pro and bringing expensive equipment around, hiring someone to watch it isn’t such a bad idea.

Sad to say when I shot weddings I secured anything not in my hands in the trunk of my car.

I place a personal alarm in my gear bags, open one of them and a 140db screech will draw the attention of everyone for miles, well, maybe not miles, LOL. At less than £10.00 each they are well worth the investment.
Also attach a warning sticker to inform that the bags are wired up.
I am a wedding photographer and I always try and gear up from my car and then lock it and if I have to take my cases inside the venue I will hide them back in the storage room that only the staff are allowed in and will give funny looks to people who go near said door. Haven’t had anything stolen yet but I always check on my gear throughout the day just in case.
