The season of festivals and travels has begun. This means that opening Instagram probably makes you fear of missing out, aka FOMO. Everybody seems to be wandering around and going to festivals like Coachella. But the reality behind those photos is actually quite underwhelming.

According to young musician Loren Gray, those Coachella photos aren’t at all what they seem. In a video she posted on TikTok, she claims that the majority of influencers actually fakes their trip to the famous festival for social media.

In her video, Loren claims that most influencers actually just go to the desert and rent an Airbnb or stay with someone. They do their hair and makeup as if they were going to Coachella, take some photos in the desert, and post them online – but never actually go to Coachella. “They don’t have wristbands,” Loren notes. “They just drive their little butts out to the desert to take Instagram photos, make TikToks, ‘get ready with me’s’, whatever, and they drive back.”

“So if you feel boring and sad that you’re not at Coachella, just know that most of these peoplearen’t there either.”

Back in 2019, Gabbie Hanna showed us just how easy it was to fake a trip to Coachella just to get those sweet Instagram likes. In the meantime, image editing programs have become even more advanced, and we got AI image generators that raise fakery to a whole new level. Inventing a perfect life for social media has never been easier!

So, the next time you feel a sting of jealousy when looking at other people’s Instagram photos, remember that nothing is ever as it seems, especially on social media. Instead, do your best to create your own reality that you’ll enjoy.

What is Coachella? And, while at it: What is Instagram? Is influenza contagious?
