The Nikon Z9’s shutter sound is the cat’s meow… literally

The Nikon Z9 has a bunch of features you may like and some that you may not. But in which of these two categories does the shutter sound fall?

Well, if you’re a cat person, then the sound of the Z9’s electronic shutter might be perfect for you. It’s a cat’s meow in the most literal sense of the expression. Yes, your Z9 can meow at you!

Even though live CP+ was canceled this year, there were many online presentations. Nikon Japan has published a few of them, showing off new products and features. Well, one of the features lets you change the sound of the shutter so that it sounds like a cat meowing. It’s available in the beta firmware, and you can hear it around the 1:35:30 tag in the video below.

Other than “meow,” you can also add a voice as your shutter sound, or make it sound like a Nikon D750 or F4. All of it is absolutely unnecessary, but the kitty-cat sound is utterly hilarious. It reminded me of Homer Simpson singing to himself in the courthouse (I wonder if we could set this as the sound shutter). For my fellow cat people out there, I guess this shutter sound is the cat’s meow.
