Take a look inside the van of photographer who lives on the road 24/7

Living on the road sounds scary for some, while others see it as a dream come true. Photographer Christian Schaffer falls into the second group and she’s been traveling for years now, living in a van. In this video, she takes you on a tour of her home on wheels, which may be small, but it has everything a home needs to have.

For Christian, an open road is a place where she feels most at home. She traveled by an SUV first and lived in it for a few years. Her life story isn’t at all a fairytale, but as she writes, these unfortunate circumstances could be what developed her passion for living on the road in the first place.

The photographer has recently upgraded to a 2019 Dodge Ram ProMaster 1500 High Roof cargo van and turned it into her home on wheels. She says that it was her goal to make it look as much as possible to her last apartment. It’s like a (really) small version of it, but it’s completely functional. Plus it takes her where she wants to be without leaving home. How cool does that sound?

Christian says that she is “stoked to share what it’s like to live in a van while working as a freelance photographer.” She wishes to inspire everyone to step outside their comfort zone by sharing her own story, including her “personal highs and lows along this (sometimes) wild journey.”

Personally, I think that her lifestyle is insanely brave and fantastic. I lean more towards that group who sees living on the road like a dream come true. But, I’d definitely need a companion, and I admire her for being brave and strong enough to spend some much time with her own thoughts. For me, that’s the toughest challenge.

If you’re curious about how Christian’s van was put together, there’s a 3-part series about it and you can watch it here. You can also read Christian’s story here, and visit her website and Instagram for her work.
