Shortly after displaying its consumer 8K MFT camera prototype at CES 2019, Sharp has announced that it’s officially joining the Micro Four Thirds market. Along with Olympus and Panasonic, Sharp will now also add MFT products to their lineup.

We know show lasers are dangerous to cameras. Heck, we all remember that RED sensor getting fried from a direct laser hit in a light show. With self-driving cards anticipated to rule the roads, the world may become a totally unsafe place for cameras.
Ars Technica reports that During CES Jit Ray Chowdhury, an autonomous vehicle engineer at the startup Ridecell, took some photos of a car equipped with lidars made by AEye. He used a $1,998.00 Sony a7R II. Later, Mr. Chowdhury noticed that all the photos he took after taking that car photos had a couple of bright purple spots on them. Each spot being the center of a cross-like purple pattern.

It has no name, right now, other than “8K Video Camera”, but this 8K Micro Four Thirds camera from electronics giant Sharp is currently on display in prototype form at CES 2019. It was spotted by Dave Altizer at Kinotika discovered wandering through the CES show floor. And he decided to make a short video to tell us all about it.

Panasonic Lumix S1 and S1R coming in March and they have two new features
Panasonic’s announcement from CES today talks about the upcoming Lumix S1 and S1R cameras announced at Photokina. On initial announcement, not a lot of information was released. We know that the S1 will house a 24-megapixel full frame sensor, and the S1R will be 47-megapixels. We also know that they would both utilise Leica’s L mount.
But beyond that, there’s still not a lot out there. But now Panasonic has released information two of the features that will be coming to the Lumix S series cameras. High Resolution Mode and “HLG Photo” (High Dynamic Range). Oh, and we also have a release date.

Nikon Z mirrorless cameras to get Eye AF, RAW video, and CFexpress support
So, it looks like the new Z mount 14-30mm f/4 S lens isn’t the only thing coming out of CES from Nikon today. They’ve also announced that three new pretty major features are coming to Nikon’s Z6 and Z7 mirrorless cameras in a new firmware update. And they’ve announced a filmmaker’s kit to take advantage of one of those features.
Which of these features is the biggest will depend mostly on what you use the camera for. For photographers, you’re getting Eye AF. For filmmakers, The Nikon Z6 and Z7 will soon be able to output ProRes RAW video when recorded externally to the Atomos Ninja V. Finally, Nikon is the first manufacturer to announce future support for the new CFexpress cards.
Nikon launches ultra-wide 14-30mm f/4 lens for Z series
At CES 2019 in Las Vegas, Nikon announced that Z series of lenses is going wide: NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S is the latest addition to the Z family. It’s not only the first ultra-wide lens for the Z system but also the world’s first ultra-wide full-frame lens that lets you attach filters on the front.
Kodak launches new Smile instant cameras, printer and Luma projectors
While the Kodak name doesn’t have the same impact it once did, Kodak is still out there and they’ve kicked off CES 2019 with several new gear announcements. There are two new models of Kodak Smile instant camera. There’s the Kodak Smile Classic and the regular Kodak Smile.
There’s a Kodak Smile Instant Digital Printer, too, compatible with iOS and Android devices and can be sent photos via Bluetooth for printing from your Smartphone. And, finally, Kodak is also expanding their Luma range with three new Luma 75, Luma 150 and Luma 350 projectors.
Insta360’s new Titan houses eight Micro Four Thirds sensors and shoots up to 11K 360° video
Just a few short years ago, nobody had ever heard the name Insta360. Established in 2014, they’re now one of the first names many people turn to when it comes to 360° cameras. And they’re constantly pushing themselves with bigger and better. Now, at CES 2019, Insta360 has announced the new Insta360 Titan, which shoots 11K 360 video footage.
The new Titan contains eight Micro Four Thirds sensors and is capable of shooting 11K footage at 30 frames per second, or you can take a slight drop in resolution for 3D, which is 10K at 30 frames per second. The Titan also offers 8K at 60fps or 5.3K at a very impressive 120 frames per second.
