With everything that’s been happening this year, the fate of Prime Day 2020 was unknown until very recently when Amazon announced that Prime Day (which is actually two days, or sometimes a whole week depending on the seller) was going to begin… well, today. Now.
Here are some of the best deals we’ve found so far. We’ll keep updating this list as we spot more, so keep checking back. Let us know if you see any you think we’re missing that we should include!
This is both cool and super creepy – especially given past stories of Amazon employees being caught (and, thankfully, fired) for spying on Ring customers. But Ring’s newest announcement isn’t just like their regular home security cameras. It’s called the Ring Always Home Cam, and it’s basically a drone that sits there, silently, patiently, creepily waiting to spring into action.
This is an odd leak. It’s from a retailer, but it’s not WEX, B&H or some random company that only the local townspeople have heard of. This time it’s Amazon.
Despite not yet having been officially announced, the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark IV is now available to pre-order from Amazon Canada. The listing shows some of the specs of the camera along with a $900.45 (Canadian) price tag, a September 25th release date and a great big “Pre-order now” button.
The graphics card in my computer died yesterday. So, last night, I went to Amazon to order a shiny new Nvidia graphics card. Thanks to Amazon Prime delivery, it should be arriving sometime in the next couple of hours. It’s an ability that many of us take for granted and do every day. But as with all things at the moment, coronavirus is having its impact.
Amazon has announced that they are temporarily prioritising the products coming into their fulfilment centres throughout the USA and the EU. Effective from today until at least April 5th, Amazon will be prioritising “household staples and medical supplies” over the things many of us would ordinarily buy – including camera gear.
The Gary Fong Lightsphere has been a staple of wedding and event photography for years. And no matter how much some photographers wish they would just disappear, they insist on persevering. It seems demand for them is pretty high, too, as counterfeit Lightspheres, along with full Gary Fong branding are not only being made but even sold on Amazon.
Gary Fong himself bought one of the fakes from Amazon in order to make a video calling out these counterfeit products and showing the differences between the originals and the fakes.
If you ordered a $550 Sony 85mm f/1.8 FE from Amazon for $249, it seems that you aren’t getting it after all. Even though this isn’t its first pricing error, Amazon has canceled all orders of the $249 Sony lens because it was “displayed at an incorrect price.”
A few years ago, Jordan Guthmann had a job interview at Amazon. He didn’t get the job, life moved on… but then he discovered that Amazon used his photo. And oh the irony – it was on their Talent Acquisition website!
Amazon offered some pretty nifty deals on Prime Day earlier this week. But thanks to several pricing mistakes, some users were able to score deals one can only dream of. There were a few cameras, lenses and kits were sold for around $100, some retailing at a regular price of whopping $12,000!
If there’s one certainty about Amazon’s Prime Day… uhh, Days? It’s that it’s pretty hectic. Everybody’s rushing to pick up the deals before they rush out, and staffers are trying to get listings up as quickly as possible. It seems that somebody was a little too eager to get a listing live without properly checking it, though.
According to Fuji Rumors, a member of the Fujifilm X100 Facebook group managed to pick up a Fujifilm X100F for $102. And it was sold and shipped by Amazon themselves. The regular price is $1,299, making for a pretty massive 92% discount, and according to the group member, the order is marked as “On the way” and is currently in the hands of UPS.
It’s Amazon Prime day again, although I’m not sure the name’s entirely accurate now as it seems to be lasting for two days. But we’re going to be keeping our eyes out for deals on Amazon Prime today and tomorrow for photographers and filmmakers. So, keep checking back, as this list will grow throughout the event.
