The World Photography Organization has just announced the shortlisted photographers in the Student and Youth categories of the Sony World Photography Awards 2022. This year, they were invited to respond to the task Connections, considering how differently we have all been connecting over the past two years. As it always goes with this contest, there are plenty of beautiful images, so let’s take a look.

The Student contest gathers ten students at leading international higher education institutions. They were invited to submit a series of five to ten images interpreting this year’s brief, Connections. According to the contest representative, the shortlisted entries have each been chosen for their “nuanced and intelligent responses to this brief.”

As for the Youth contest, the shortlist features seven category winners from June to December 2021, who each responded to a different monthly theme. Among this year’s shortlists, there are youngsters between the ages of 15 and 19.
