After revealing shortlists and finalists from this year’s Professional competition and winners of its National Award, Sony World Photography Award has also announced its Open competition category winners and shortlists. I don’t know about you, but I could really use a getaway from real life right now. And what’s better than looking at some splendid photos, right? These images have taken me over the seas and far away in my imagination, and I’m sure they’ll help you feel the same.

The Open competition of the Sony World Photography Awards (SWPA) is run by The World Photography Organisation. They have selected this year’s winners, along with 100 shortlisted images, across ten categories:

  1. Architecture
  2. Creative
  3. Culture
  4. Landscape
  5. Motion
  6. Natural world & wildlife
  7. Portraiture
  8. Still life
  9. Street photography
  10. Travel

As for the awards, each winner receives the latest Sony gear and they will compete for the Open Photographer of the Year title and a $5,000 USD reward. The overall Open winner will be announced on 9 June current year on the World Photography Organisation and Sony’s online platforms.

Below you can see this year’s category winners in the Open competition. I have also selected one shortlisted image in each category, but I strongly suggest that you check out the whole gallery on SWPA’s website. Additionally, you can see more of the stunning images submitted to the contest. All in all, there are plenty of photos to enjoy!
